Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery – Comparison of four battery types
Lead-acid batteries are a mature battery technology that mainly uses lead and lead oxide as electrodes and sulfuric acid as an electrolyte. Their advantages include:

The main applications of NiMH batteries include hybrid vehicles, portable electronic devices, and some high-performance power tools. Despite this, they have a high self-discharge rate and need to be kept charged when stored.
Lithium-ion batteries are a widely used rechargeable battery that uses lithium compounds as electrode materials and has the following advantages:
- High energy density: Lithium-ion batteries can store more energy and are lighter in size and weight.
- Long cycle life: Lithium-ion batteries can generally support hundreds to thousands of charge and discharge cycles.
- Fast charging: Lithium-ion batteries charge quickly, which is suitable for the needs of modern devices.
They are widely used in fields such as smartphones, laptops, electric vehicles, and renewable energy storage. However, the disadvantages of lithium-ion batteries include high cost and the possibility of thermal runaway under extreme conditions.
Lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4 or LFP) are a specific type of lithium-ion battery that uses lithium iron phosphate as the positive electrode material. Their main advantages include:
- High safety: Lithium iron phosphate battery are less prone to thermal runaway and explosion than other lithium batteries.
- Long cycle life: Lithium iron phosphate battery can usually support more than 2,000 charge and discharge cycles.
- Strong stability: Lithium iron phosphate battery perform well in both high and low temperature environments.
Lithium iron phosphate battery are widely used in electric vehicles, solar energy storage, and some power tools. Although their energy density is relatively low, their safety and durability make them popular in many fields.
